A Haunted Castle is Waiting For You

Up from Northamptonshire to Tewkesbury the River Avon passes many beauties and impressive landscapes and structures but among all the others, the Warwick Castle stands up gloriously. To an observer it seems as if these two natural elements constantly complement each other, Avon on beauty and the castle on strength.

Built by William the Conqueror it was supposed to serve as a defense base for the area but fate had another plans for it. The castle was used as a prison in its lifetime frequently. The most famous prisoner that was held in it was Edward IV king of England along with his wife Margaret of Anjou.

Nowadays most of castles and fortifications seem to be out of their initial purpose and they only act as historic places for attracting curios tourists but The Castle of Warwick has managed to play a more important rule, it has become residence of ghosts. It is said that the castle has been haunt by Sir Fulke Greville. Fulke, a poet, was very keen on the castle and spent a lot to restore it and for some reasons it turned one of the servant furious, he believe that their master paid a lot more attention to the castle but not enough to him. In anger stabbed the master and in a short while turned the knife back to himself and committed suicide. It is said that since then there has been many unexplainable incidents that leaves no option expect believing that the castle is hunted.

The Warwick Castle is enormous. As any fortress is enclosed inside a thick and tall wall with six towers which were used not only for monitoring any suspicious movement around it but also as prisons. Bear and Clarence towers monitor the main entrance, Guy's and Caesar towers are residential with a dungeon in the basement of Caesar tower.

A full access ticket costs around £22 at the time of writing this article which is quite a reasonable price for such adventure. With easy access, low admission price and plenty of places to rest and eat the Castle of Warwick invites everybody for once in a life time experience.

Survival Kits Needed When Vacationing Outdoors

Exploring the woods, mountains, hiking trails, and other fun camping sites has been a beloved outdoor activity for ages now. There are so many ways to fully maximize nature that it would be impossible to enumerate in one article. But one thing that's a must to have make this an excellent experience is to have the right outdoor emergency kits and supplies.

If you look all the way back in early history, you might be surprised to find that there have always been some kind of ointment or creme used specifically for someone who may have suffered some type of insect or animal bite, a scorching burn, or even from protection form harmful UV rays. Outdoor emergency supplies didn't just pop onto the scene in recent decades, since very early cultures would make their own from items they found within nature itself.

You can pretty much count on the fact that, being that you all will be active in the outdoors, the terrain will result in one of the individuals in your pack will end up cutting, scraping themselves, or getting a hematoma. Insects can be a pretty big irritant as well. Whether you would think so or not, something as small as an insect bite, such as that of a fly, can make was at first an awesome camping excursion turn into a nightmare if you aren't prepared to treat them.

Well stocked first aid kits should always include essential outdoor emergency supplies such as a flashlight with extra batteries, as it will be crucial if you are out hiking and night falls faster than you anticipated or if you become lost. A sharp knife should also be included because it will come in handy for a variety of things such as cutting string for the tent, cleaning fish, and for countless other situations you may not even realize.

A whistle is a great addition to your kit in the event you become separated from your camping party. Fire starters are useful, specifically if the area you are camping in has had rain recently and the kindling and small branches you would normally collect and use for starting a fire are damp.

A variety of over the counter medical supplies should always be stocked in first aid kits. Band aids and gauze for wounds, punctures or cuts are a must have. If someone experiences this type of accident, then an antibiotic that you can manually apply on the skin and injured area would be great to have on hand. Aspirin, antacids and ibuprofen are good for headaches and muscle aches. Creams to relieve burns and itch relief from rash or bug bites are good to have, also.

Perhaps none of the things that you pack in your first aid or survival kit ever be used, and that's what you hope and pray for, but better to be safe than sorry. One of the most intelligent things you can do in your prep work is to be sure that all that are on the trip remain in optimal health and that any accident be taken care of immediately with the correct supplies.

Bake cookies is a great way to involve children in the kitchen at an early age. Even the little ones are so cookies made, albeit mixed pasta, impressed, has an ingredient or sprinkle some colored sugar decorations. And homemade cookiesconsidered perfect for everything from the neighbor hood Welcome gifts, teacher gifts, Christmas gifts, office, or just something to say to the hand and Dad: "Look what I order you" made it.

Today we have a cookie dough very well against our milk in grocery stores to sell bucket of pasta as charity events. But your point just fine cooking is still something special. Bake cookies with the kids, not only fun but teaches them how to measure it, even a mathematical competenceRecognize they are learning. It 's also a lesson in organization, beginning as ingredients before cooking, a lesson in dealing with others, if only you two, and a lesson in cleaning the kitchen must be clean then be collected. Even if children are involved, always speak with a certain cookie recipe gives you a sense of self and confidence, as others expect from us, and also a request for cookie special.

Chinese Cooking Utensils

There are quite a few traditional utensils that have been used in cooking for thousands of years in China. Some of them are still seen in most of families, some can only be seen in rural areas, or may be disappearing in the modern world. But to cook authentic Chinese food that always tastes like grandma's, some of the utensils simply cannot be replaced by what you see in American stores.

Chinese Wok

Deep pan with round bottom used in several ways. Comes in iron, stainless and stainless with layer of copper on the bottom. Iron heats most evenly, but should be seasoned before using or food will stick.

To season: Fill pan with water. Add soap and soda and bring to boil. Pour off water, wipe dry. Place pan over strong heat. Add oil and rotate till pan is coated. Pour off excess oil. Place pan over weak fire and wipe with dry cloth.

To clean: After using pan, wash while still hot. Wipe and place over heat to dry completely.

Knife

Heavy and wide. All purpose - for paring, cutting, slicing, chopping and carving.

Iron Palette

Comes in square or round front. Rounded ones are easier to use with Chinese wok. Use for frying, sautéing and basting.

Iron Spoon

Use back side for mixing food with minimum breakage.

Steamer

Used for steaming buns, chicken, meat, fish. Place over Chinese wok filled with boiling water. Buy one size smaller than wok. There are new styles of steamers on the market made of different materials. But Chinese believe that the traditional steamer works the best.

Slotted Spoon

Used for deep frying and boiling to get rid of excess oil or water.

Wire Sieve

With handle. Used for boiling noodles, dumplings, etc.

Steamers for Pastries

Small in size - about 15cm (6") in diameter. Used in same method as large steamer. Serve hot pastries in steamers. Typical foods served are small meat buns (small steamer meat buns, or Xiao Long Bao Zi), steamed meat dumplings (Shao Mai), etc.

Moulds for cookies

Made from wood with various carved designs. No longer popular in the modern society since people tend to buy cookies off the shelf. Some may still use the moulds for major holidays, or just Chinese New Year.

Bamboo Brush

Used for washing hot wok. Guess only people in some rural areas still use this type of brush. More people use regular washing cloth found on market.

Rolling Pin

Used for preparing noodles, dumpling skins, Chinese pancakes, and more. With the busy daily life nowadays, most of time people choose to buy ready to cook fresh noodles and dumpling skins from the small vendors seen on the street to save us time. Choose ones made from sturdy wood.

African Safari Gear Packing List - What To Take Along

The last thing you want on an African safari is to realise that you have left any important safari gear behind.

Because of the nature of safari there are some things that are essential to take with and others that you can do without because they are only going to add to your luggage weight.

This is a listing of some of the "must have" safari gear you need to pack to take along which forms a part of the full safari packing list that you can print out to tick off each item as you go along.

This safari packing list is based on the packing advice and recommendations from a collection of safari trip reports and my own experience in packing for the dozens of safaris that I have been on...

SAFARI CLOTHES

If you are going on a walking safari it's essential that you get the safari clothing right. Bright colours are definitely to be avoided.

My wife and I went on a walking safari in Botswana and we came across a group of elephant that the tracker wanted to take us closer to but because my wife was wearing a red shirt she had to wait further away for fear of the elephants noticing us. So remember to pack the following safari gear...

Clothing in neutral colours: khaki, light brown/green, tan. Avoid bright colours and white for improved game viewing.
Comfortable non-synthetic short- and long sleeved safari shirts (2 or 3 of each)
Comfortable non-synthetic shorts and long trousers (2 or 3 of each)

TOILETRIES & FIRST AID

Every safari company worth its salt should have a first aid kit available for use by its clients so it might be a good idea to check with them first if they do and what it contains.

But if you have specific medicine requirements then take it with as it might not be available in the areas you are going on safari in.

Sun block and after sun
Towel - travel towel is light and takes very little space
Skin cream
Insect repellent/mosquito coils (do not use coils in tent)
Anti-malaria medication
Citronella or other body soap/shower gel
Wet wipes/hand sanitizer or no-water/antibacterial soap - very handy in the Landrover etc.
Band aids and moleskin
Pocket knife (Swiss/Leatherman type)
Small scissors, if not on your Leatherman/Swiss knife
Small unbreakable mirror
Plastic bags (wet washing/muddy shoes/organise clothes in suitcase)
Book to read between game viewing and other leisure time
String/rope (washing line, tying sleeping bag, multitude of uses!!)
Cold/flu tablets
Allergy remedy
Some people take a basic antibiotic in case
Prescribed medicine (enough to last your trip)

SAFARI LUGGAGE

The thing to remember when choosing safari luggage is mobility. You might be moving between several different modes of transport (airplanes, cars, light aircraft, trucks, boats) so plan accordingly.Suitcases with wheels don't work very well in the African bush but they are adequate if you don't mind carrying them. (A good safari company will probably have someone on hand to carry your luggage for you).A daypack is very handy to transport the safari gear you need while driving around in the safari vehicle or walking through the bush

GENERAL

There is one item of safari gear that you should never be without on your trip and that is binoculars.

The frustration of seeing an animal in the distance and not being able to take a closer look because you don't have a good pair of binocs is intense.

Many safari companies do supply them for you but they might be a little battered and bent with use and you will also have to share them with other members of the group which will mean less viewing time for you.

Binoculars (essential safari gear)
Torch
Camera and film (can be expensive and/or difficult to obtain) and extra flash batteries and lens cleaner
If taking a digital camera: memory stick(s)/data card(s), charger and
extra batteries
Small bean bag to substitute a tripod
Sleeping bag (may be supplied by safari company so check first)
Travel pillow, or you can use your polar fleece/windbreaker
Small calculator (or if you're taking your mobile phone) for currency calculations
Money belt

DOCUMENTS

Visa requirements are an important consideration especially if you are going on safari in multiple African countries as some of them have different visa terms. Your travel agent or safari operator should be able to help you with this so make sure you check with them...

Passport and correct visas
Emergency phone numbers
Insurance policy
Guide book(s) covering the area you're visiting - it should include animals/birds pages for easy identification
Your itinerary
Addresses and mobile numbers (postcards/e-mails/texts)
Any vaccinations certificates

Love Backpacking? Don't We All!

The smell of the road often drives people crazy. Those unknown streets, those narrow alleys, or the mighty mountains, the lingering fragrance of fern and pine trees, it is an indescribable feeling. Only the backpackers will understand the joy of being on the road and only they can understand the happiness in leaving behind the hustle and bustle of everyday existence and packing the bare necessities and setting out for an unknown destination. As for these backpackers, these trekkers, these hitchhikers the only people are the mad ones-the ones who are according to Jack Kerouac "mad to live."

While backpacking in Europe, there are definite things you must carry in your backpacking bag. The important documents like passports, travel documents, visas, money, credit cards etc should be safely kept inside a plastic folder, so that come rain or hail or snow they are safe. Those documents give you your identity so they must be safe and sound. Backpacking in Europe is a thrilling experience for sure but without the essential elements in your precious backpacking bag, it can be quite fatal! Firstly, your backpacking bag should be a light, yet sturdy one. Buy one with discretion, so that it suits your body weight and body shape. It should be spacious enough to carry whatever you need and it should definitely be waterproof. While packing your backpacking bag, be smart.

Keep the heavier things at the bottom and fill it up with lighter articles. You should have a proper list of essentials and be sure to put everything meticulously in that backpacking bag. Don't carry too many clothes as you will easily get tired. Be sure to carry a pair of chunky mountain shoes or sneakers and a raincoat. Carry shorts and jeans and not more than four t-shirts. While you revel in the astonishing beauty of Europe, you surely don't want to get tired! Don't forget to pack clean underwear! Carry important essentials like the toothbrush, a torch, a five-in-one pocket knife, ropes (if you are mountaineer), your iPod, one book (do NOT carry more, you can easily exchange with your fellow backpackers), plates (two), forks and spoons (preferably strong ones made of plastic). Definitely pack your sunscreen and insect repellent cream, so that while camping out, those killer mosquitoes can be avoided. Also, do not forget to carry your soaps and shampoos.

The best time to go backpacking in Europe is during the month of June, July or August. You should definitely plan your backpacking trip to Europe. Decide for how long you plan to backpack in Europe, accordingly fix up your budget. Also know and be sure of the countries you really want to go backpacking in. Do this, so that you can acquire the suitable Euro Rail pass. Staying at the youth hostels is an inexpensive option and is definitely the ideal option for backpackers. While backpacking in Europe, be ready for wonderful adventures, be ready to explore to the maximum, be ready to meet exciting new people as mad as you are and if you plan it properly, it is surely going to be a life-changing experience!

Tent Camping Tips Begin With A Good Campfire

No list of tent camping tips would be complete without a good discussion on fire building. Ever since Prometheus brought fire to man, its properties have been cherished throughout our history. Its importance during a camping trip almost takes on a spiritual healing significance as it can boost morale and provide strength even on a rainy or cold day.

With that said, the task of building a fire can be done many different ways. However, here are a few camping tips to keep in mind.

1. Location: Find an open location of at least a 6 yard radius of open space. (Almost all camping sites should be able to accommodate this size). It is also a good idea to avoid areas where there are a lot of dead, over-hanging branches. If it has recently been raining or there is snow on the trees, put a tarp above the fire. This is to protect the fire from being put out by any falling snow or rain when the wind blows.

2. Size: Clear out the underbrush surrounding the fire for a good 3 yard radius. This is done to prevent a brush fire from occurring. If the campsite has been undergoing a drought or has been particularly dry, extend this radius out to 5 yards.

3. Containment: Fires are usually contained by making a pit lined with rocks or using a backlog. A back log is a large log that the fire is placed against. These containments are used to keep the fire enclosed. For most camping sites, either containment can be used. However, a pit lined with rocks is a better option in the mountains where a strong wind can blow out the fire.

4. Firewood: Before starting the fire, it is wise to have your firewood ready to go. This keeps you from having to go hunting for firewood while getting the fire initially going. There are three types of firewood that you want ready.

a. Shavings or tender: These are the strips cut off of dead wood by your knife. Also, dried grass and cotton can be used as tender.

b. Kindling: This includes twigs and pine needles. These can be pulled off of dead trees and burn a little longer than shavings.

c. Various sizes of dead wood: These should be put on the fire in increasing size until you find the appropriate size fire you are looking for.

5. Starting Fire: I recommend creating a small teepee with the shavings and light the shavings. As the fire starts going, you should add the kindling and then add the various sizes of dead wood.

a. One caveat: if the dead wood is wet, split the wood with an axe. The inside wood tends to be drier and will allow it to burn more easily.

6. Choice of Woods: This is usually dictated by your camping site; however, it is a good idea to know your woods.

a. Softwoods, such as pine, firs, and cedar, are good for shavings and burn quickly. However, they tend not to give off much heat or last very long. Also, cedar and pine can get very smoky and should be avoided when cooking.

b. Medium Hardwoods, such as maple, aspen, and cottonwood, are better at burning a little longer and are good kindling.

c. Hardwoods, such as oak, burn the longest and provide the most heat. This makes them the best for cooking.

7. Firewood Supply: You can never have enough firewood. Once you get the fire going, make periodic trips to get more wood. Always make a point to get more than you think you will need.

8. Dry Wood: For morning fires, it is a good idea to bring firewood into the tent during the previous night. This will help prevent morning dew or rain during the night to delay the starting of the morning fire.

9. Other Fire Building Tent Camping Tips:

a. Live wood can be used to setup your cooking area. Live wood is less likely to burn and thus can be used to make pot hooks to hold pots, stakes to hold frying pans over the fire, and can even be used to make an overhang for the fire by chopping out two Y pieces that have another straight crosspiece placed across the notches of the two Y pieces.

b. Morning coals: If the weather conditions are appropriate, it is a good idea to have a big evening fire with hardwoods. Often times, you will still have coals in the morning that can be used to start the fire.

Making cooking sauces - various gourmet sauce bases

A sauce is a primary fluid, such as soup is flavored with spices and sauteed ingredients. In the gourmet world before a sauce made out, it's usually minor. "This creates an effect of evaporation makes the sauce thicker and more flavorful. Sometimes sauces are also a smooth texture, and sometimes they are designed to remove solids.

There are certain basic sauces that are used to create thousands of variations. These include:
~ WhiteSauces
~ Brown Sauce
~ Pinzimonio
~ Hollandaise
~ Mayonnaise

white sauces have been used for centuries in French cuisine, with its pantry, a bit 'nutty taste. They are used as the basis for many dishes in French. Are mainly based on the addition of butter and flour on a "Roux" and then create milk or cream is added to create the white sauce. A "smooth" is a sauce made with broth instead of milk. The cream is to reduce stock was added. Is usuallyserved with fish, poultry or vegetables.

Brown sauces are a bit different in that they use a reduction of beef, veal, or lamb stock to achieve the final sauce. Veal stock is the base for many brown sauces in French cuisine. The reason for this is because they have more gelatin in the neck bones which is most desirable for sauce making. The traditional way to make a red meat stock is to save all the bones from your leftovers so you can use them for your stock. You can also get them directly from the butcher, so they are fresh.

Another technique you can use to make a brown gravy-type created is called "Melt." This includes the addition of wine to a pot roast that fat she jumped a steak or meat, just was. Usually there are a lot of taste even back in the pan and a good way to use left to make a sauce, similar to that of Turkey with bread and dripping for a sauce.

Vinaigrette dressings are saturated fat and more desirable for the low observedExtend to courts, which may increase cholesterol levels. This method of roasting sauces often include various vegetables such as tomatoes, spices and garlic in the oven for 20 minutes or so. At the end, are crushed and beaten with olive oil and vinegar. This is a traditional vinaigrette.

hollandaise sauce is a sauce of egg that has a scent of lemon. The basic ingredients for this sauce are egg yolks, butter, lemon juice and pepper. The method consists in mixing theegg yolk in a water bath and then added the butter while stirring to create a thick texture. Dutch may then in a number of other varieties like the sauce: Béarnaise be made, Choron sauce and Chantilly. Mayonnaise is similar, except oil and mustard contains Dutch instead of lemon. He fought in a blender or by hand made the old way.

For all types of sauces, a mixer is an excellent kitchen and a perfect tool if you want to create a nice smooth texture. Youcan instant sauces, can only occur within minutes. And some, such as pesto sauces are much more fun to do in a nice blender at high speed. Today, French cuisine includes several hundred different varieties of sauces. But they all come from the five basic sauces. They are great to get home cooking repertoire. You can expand from there and get all the possibilities, salsa creative potential!

Smokey Mountain 2 - Interview & Declarations

In 2008 I spent a day at the New Smokey Mountain garbage dump in Manila, Philippines. Then, 2 years later, I was able to return so wanted to make a little video to commemorate. I talked to the kids about how important they were and had them make declarations over the land. I came with a team of students from the Bethel School of Supernatural MInistry in Redding, CA. As part of our visit to the dump we invited all the kids to come for a time of singing, dancing, free balloons and to watch a drama about the gifts that Father God has to give us. About 50 kids gave their lives tot he Lord and several others were healed. One child was healed from being cross eyed as another child prayed for him. Another man with a distended stomach from a knife wound had his stomach shrink back to normal during prayer.

Wilderness Survival - Getting Water to Drink

More important than food and perhaps even more important than fire, water is necessary for survival. Maybe it is obvious, but our bodies are comprised of a lot of it.

You can harvest water in a variety of ways. Unless you live in Michigan (the Great Lakes State) or Minnesota (Land of 10,000 Lakes) or such locales where ponds and lakes are prevalent, free-flowing water may not always be readily available. Standing water can be a bit sketchy, so if you don't have a kit to test or a way to purify, you need to seek it elsewhere.

Plants are some of the easiest to locate and most reliable sources of clean water. Many of them hold droplets of rain on the leaves and others house plenty of moisture in their stems.

Avoid drinking from storm drains, sewers, and puddles with rainbow sheen. Not all that is wet is water, so use your other senses to help determine whether or not it is in fact water.

If a plant is growing in soil that is near urban areas, the ground water may be contaminated. In this case, the more rustic the venue the better your chances are of finding healthier sources. Of course, this works to your advantage - if you are in a survival situation, you are probably pretty far out in the wild anyway.

Use caution when acquiring water from plants in the wild. If you aren't sure whether or not a plant is poisonous or not, don't use it. Remember the unfortunate kid at summer camp that ran through the poison ivy in shorts? Now imagine trying to scratch the back of your throat when it itches!

More often than not, you may be able to trust grapevines, birch tree sap, maple tree sap, and thistles. Some plants look like other plants that you really don't want to use for water collection. Grapevines have a poisonous look-alike, the Canada Moonseed vine, so be careful.

Instead of pressing your luck by squeezing what may or may not be grapevines, press the wood fibers of birch trees in your fist and point your thumb towards your open mouth.

Remember: water can be acquired from a variety of natural sources, but use your better judgment and never assume.

Bringing too little with you may leave you with not enough of the camping essentials while bringing too much may make it impossible to carry everything on your back.

If you'll need your own shelter then choose a tent that is an adequate size and is easy to assemble. Look for a sturdy tent made of waterproof material. The more elaborate, the more assembly time and effort is usually required. Consider purchasing a self-assembling tent that has a collapsible frame all in one unit. It will save time putting up and taking down.

"Roughing it" doesn't mean you have to sleep on the bare ground. Purchase an inflatable mattress and a comfortable sleeping bag. If you're hiking with your gear then buy a lightweight yet well insulated sleeping bag and a sleeping mat to sleep on. If you'll be sleeping in cold weather then spend the money to get a well insulated sleeping bag; it will be well worth the investment.

Camping doesn't mean you also have to eat cold, pre-packaged food. Bring a cooking stove and some basic cooking utensils. Bring just enough to get by especially if you'll be hiking with your gear.

Make sure you take a first aid kit that contains the necessities. You'll need various sized bandages and antibacterial cream or spray. Ibuprofen is a pain reliever and anti-inflammatory so it's a beneficial to stock your kit with a bottle. Also bring some anti-histamine; not only is it good for treating allergies but also as an itch reliever.

Insect repellent is important as well as sun block. Bring some basic tools such as scissors and a Swiss Amy knife. Bring a flashlight which comes in handy for walks at night and when looking for something in your tent. Cleansing towelettes are useful for cleaning soiled hands and small scrapes. Also do remember to carry a map of Alicante, or wherever it is that you are going.

Most campsites have a water supply but if you prefer purified water then you'll need to bring in your own. Bottled water also comes in handy for cleaning first aid cuts and scrapes.

Don't over pack especially if you'll be hiking with your camping gear. Give yourself plenty of time to pack and plan and bring only the essentials.

Winter Hiking - Safety and Precautions For A Fun Winter Sport

Winter hiking can be a tranquil even surreal experience when done properly. The peace of walking through cold and wintry scenes captured in the outdoors is considered by many to be a great way to spend a day. Additional precautions are needed when hiking in the winter, however, as winter weather can create a number of issues not typically a problem in the summer. It is important to protect yourself from both colder temperatures and potential winter hazards this time of year. Making sure that you have the right equipment for your hike and taking extra time planning so that you can avoid many potentially dangerous situations are important to winter hiking safety.

Essential Equipment

Proper equipment is a winter hiking essential. Your biggest priorities are going to be making sure that you have light and warmth when you need it, as well as food and water to keep you from becoming dehydrated or hungry. A basic multipurpose tool or a pocket knife is important for any hiking situation. A small first aid kit is too. LED flashlights are the smartest choice for a light source. They use very little energy (batteries) and therefore will last much longer than a standard light. Pack both thermal blankets and chemical heat packs to ensure that you and your companions will be able to stay warm enough if caught out in unexpected bad weather. If you'll be camping during your hike, invest in a sleeping bag that's designed to keep you warm in low temperatures. Make sure that you pack all of the necessary equipment that you would bring in warmer weather, and be sure that you put an extra emphasis on safety and first aid.

Careful Planning

When you're planning your hiking trip, take extra time to plan out your route. Do your research and see if you can find out about any safety advisories in the area where you want to hike, and adjust your equipment list as needed to accommodate for any special circumstances that you might encounter based on these warnings. If you're planning a multi-day hiking trip, you might want to have an LED flashlight that has a lantern function as well so that you can illuminate larger areas with it. Begin watching weather reports several days in advance of when your trip is planned for so that you can make any necessary adjustments to your plans. Once your plan is set, make sure you notify two to three people of your expected route and plans for return so they can alert the proper authorities if you do not return as scheduled.

Being Mindful of Temperature

Temperatures often drop quickly during the winter, and it can be very easy to underestimate the effects of these temperature shifts. You must also be mindful of the amount of sweat that your body can produce even in cold weather, as it can not only lead to you having wet clothes and skin in cold weather but you can also be in danger of dehydration. Quickly dropping temperatures can increase your likelihood of becoming sick and can also put you at risk for hypothermia. Because of this, in addition to any blankets or heat packs that you bring, it's important that you dress appropriately for the projected temperatures on the day or days that you'll be hiking. Dress in layers and bring extra shirts, jackets, pants, or other clothing that can be added with relative ease if necessary.

Tex on alienated circuitous deployment knives

avoid knives that have a complex deployment because under stress your fine-motor-skills go to shit! Pick a simple deployment knife as a tactical folder or as an EDC and practice with it, until it becomes second nature, then practice with it until it becomes first nature or natural, and the practice with it until it becomes subconscious action.

Survival in the Woods - Ten Essentials For Dayhikes Gone Wrong

For dayhikes on an urban path or on a heavily traveled and nicely groomed trail, your only concern may be having a bottle of water with you. But when you head out into the backcountry for an extended dayhike, you'll want to be prepared with a few extra items. What has become known within the hiking community as the "Ten Essentials" was first popularized in the 1930s by a climbing and adventuring group called The Mountaineers. Recently The Mountaineers have updated the classic list from one based on individual items to one based on "systems." For instance, instead of listing map and compass separately, those items are now included in the "navigation" system.

You may think you don't need to carry anything special if you're only going to be out hiking for a day, but the fact is anything can happen out there. Simply tripping over a rock could turn your happy-go-lucky dayhike into an overnight emergency. The point behind the ten essentials is to make sure you have the ability to deal with unexpected situations. Sure, you may not need some of the items, but in the case where you do, you'll be glad you were prepared.

Navigation. Tops on the list are a map and compass so you can find your way back if you lose the trail. Simple line-drawn maps showing only the trail won't help you if you somehow stray off the path. Carry a topographic map, waterproof or protected from dampness, that shows route-finding details. It will show elevations, maybe roads, and other topographic features, and in conjunction with a compass will help you locate yourself.

An altimeter uses barometric pressure to give an estimate of your elevation. Used with the elevation markings on the topographic map, it can help you determine where you are. You can also carry a GPS if you want, but don't forget that batteries can and do go dead.

Sun Protection. This is something you should be using anyway. Wear sunglasses to protect your eyes. If you're going to be hiking on snow or ice, use glacier glasses with wraparound lenses to prevent prolonged glare from causing snow blindness.

Carry and use sunscreen and lip balm with at least SPF 15. And don't be sparing. A thick covering provides the most protection, and it should be reapplied every two hours.

The best sun protection is clothing. There are lightweight synthetics that provide ultraviolet protection.

Insulation. Weather can change rapidly, and if an accident keeps you out unexpectedly overnight, a whole new weather system could move in. Don't be caught unprepared. If you get wet, hypothermia can set in at much warmer temperatures than you might think, especially if you're tired, hungry, and stressed. Carry an extra layer of clothing in a synthetic fabric. Do not wear cotton, as it does not have any insulation value when wet. It's important to have a hat, too, because so much body heat is lost through the head.

Illumination. If you get stuck in the backcountry overnight, or misjudge your return time, you'll be glad to have a flashlight. LEDs are rugged and long-lasting, so they are good for outdoor activities. Headlamps are excellent because they are light and compact, have a long battery life, and free your hands for other things. Always carry spare batteries for your light.

First-aid. You can obtain a ready-made first-aid kit or assemble your own. At the least, it should contain a variety of adhesive bandages, gauze pads, adhesive tape, disinfecting ointment, blister treatment, and pain medication.

Fire. In a cold, wet emergency situation, it's good to be able to build a fire for warmth. Carry waterproof matches and some firestarter. Firestarter will light easily and stay lit long enough for your other fire materials to ignite. Some options are chunks of candles, dryer lint soaked in petroleum jelly, or just some dry tinder kept dry in a plastic bag. If all the wood you can find is too wet to light, look under logs for dry duff or use tiny twigs from resinous pine or fir trees to get things going.

Repair Kit and Tools. If whatever gear you're carrying has a field repair kit, bring it along. And certainly carry a multi-function knife. A multi-tool is a versatile piece of equipment that you can use in a variety of ways in a pinch. A common repair item is duct tape; wrap some around your water bottle or hiking poles to keep it handy. A whistle is a handy tool if you become lost or injured. The sound will travel much farther than your voice will. Three blasts on the whistle is a universal signal for help.

Nutrition. Carry extra food that doesn't need cooking. Jerky, nuts, energy bars, or trail mix travel well. In addition to providing calories, digestion itself helps keep you warm, so nibble a little every now and then, with an extra snack before bed.

Hydration. Hopefully you started out with at least two liters of water per person. In case of an emergency situation when you don't get out of the woods as soon as you expected, you should carry a method for treating water. If you don't want the bulk of a filter, there are chemical treatments that take up very little space. Use your topographic map to scout out possible water sources, and remember that chemical treatments require some time to work.

Shelter. If you're out for a dayhike, you won't be carrying a tent. But you should carry some kind of emergency shelter in case something causes you to spend the night in the wilderness. This could be a lightweight tarp or a space blanket. These provide protection from the elements and can keep you much more comfortable while you wait for daylight.

Having these ten essentials in your daypack can make the difference between an inconvenience and a real emergency. The most important ingredient, though, is something you can't put in the pack. You must have the knowledge to use your survival essentials. Just having the map and compass won't get you unlost. Take the time to learn how to interpret the readings on the compass and the markings on the map. Knowledge is the ultimate lightweight hiking gear.

Exploring the Great Outdoors of the Withlacoochee River

Location and History of the Withlacoochee River

The Withlacoochee River in South Georgia was named when the area was inhabited mainly by the Seminole Indians. Since the river made twists and turns, they named it The Withlacoochee River, meaning "crooked river". It starts near Tifton, Georgia and runs into Florida where it joins the famous Suwannee River. The Withlacoochee River became very busy and profitable in the middle 1800's. It took steamboat trade and travelers into Troupeville, Georgia, where my family and I make our home. From our back door, the Withlacoochee River is about 1/4 of a mile through dense outdoors and a trail with deep ruts from many travelers, current and past.

Plant life of the Great Outdoors of the Withlacoochee River

The type of outdoor foliage changes drastically as you approach the river. The trees change from Georgia pines, small to medium hardwoods, and much underbrush to some of the biggest Live Oak trees I have ever seen. Some are several hundred years old. The limbs get so heavy they just fall off from their own weight. Closer to the banks of the Withlacoochee River are rather large cypress and tupelo trees, and multitudes of cypress knees. There are also bracken ferns and low brush plants, such as palmettos and huckleberry. The sandy soil limits what plants can be grown.

Wildlife of the Great Outdoors of the Withlacoochee River

The Great Outdoors of the Withlacoochee River abound with wildlife. Popular activities are hunting of ducks, squirrels, turkey, and deer. For duck hunting on a cold, crisp morning, the hunters need to be in place before dawn. They wait quietly and patiently for the first ring necks and wood ducks to fly in. There are not many chances to make a hit, for about 10 minutes later or when the sun is just above the horizon, the ducks have already reached their feeding areas in low-land river sloughs where they feed on acorns and duckweed. Squirrels are in abundance traveling from one tree to another or on the ground eating acorns. Turkeys and deer can be hunted all day from professionally made hunting blinds and deer stands as high as 20 or 25 feet off the ground. Camouflage clothing and turkey calls are essentials in taking home that 10 to 20 pound turkey for the Thanksgiving table or to never forget the experience with a trip to the taxidermist. The fishing is good on most days. Spend a night of camping and catch a good supper of bream, bass, speckled perch, shellcrackers or catfish. The alligator garfish and mudfish are very large but not edible. The scene is complete as a great blue heron flies in to search for fish. He settles in the water on one foot and waits. The sounds of the pileated woodpeckers compete with cardinals, blue jays, sparrows, and crows.

Recreational Activities of the Great Outdoors of the Withlacoochee River

Enjoy camping, fishing, swimming, hiking, and some of the more unusual recreational activities as arrowhead hunting, photography, and knife throwing. The large live oak trees are perfect for tomahawk throwing or the knife sets especially made for the sport. Many people enjoy kayaking in the larger and deeper sections of the river. In the more shallow areas, large limestone shoals form on the bottom and are difficult to see. As the water flows, sticks and debris gather on the shoals, making them visible and less dangerous for kayaking. Whatever your preference for outdoor recreation, the opportunities of the Withlacoochee River are endless and year round.

Smokey Mountain 1 - Inviting Kids

Our Bethel ministry team spent a morning at the new Smokey Mountain garbage dump with Metro MInistries in Manila. We invited all the kids to come for a time of singing, dancing, free balloons and to watch a drama about the gifts that Father God has to give us. Here's the kids singing and dancing. Later in the afternoon, about 50 kids gave their lives tot he Lord and several others were healed. One child was healed from being cross eyed as another child prayed for him. Another man with a distended stomach from a knife wound had his stomach shrink back to normal during prayer.

San Pablo Bay National Wildlife Refuge of Sonoma County

It is true that San Pablo Bay National Wildlife Refuge does not limit its boundaries to Sonoma County alone, but it would be gravely negligent of me to remain silent about its majestic existence along the north shore of San Pablo Bay just because it is shared with two other neighboring counties in northern California; Solano and Napa.

In the not-so-distant past, less than 150 years ago, San Pablo Bay was enveloped by extensive and intricate marshlands perpetually permeated by surging and ebbing tidal waves of the Pacific Ocean and was regarded as one of the largest systems on the western coast of North America. These rich and sprawling swamps provided an ideal environment for aquatic plants which in turn offered safe havens and wealthy feeding grounds for migratory wintering waterfowl such as canvasback ducks, native shore and water birds as well as an abounding assortment of other land and water species.

Spanning over approximately twenty thousand acres, San Pablo Bay National Wildlife Refuge is just one of sixty-seven wildlife refuges in the San Francisco Bay area, that was established in 1974 to restore the delicate equilibrium of the wetlands, to secure threatened wildlife habitats and to protect millions of vulnerable and endangered indigenous species of flora and fauna as well as the countless migratory birds. To accomplish this gargantuan task by attempting to reverse the damage inflicted to the local tidal marshes by expending agricultural, commercial and industrial activities such as hydraulic gold mining in the 1850s at the foothills of the Sierra Nevadas, salt harvesting, rerouting and bleeding its waters and constructing dams, the management of the San Pablo Bay National Wildlife Refuge had formed a partnership with the Department of the Interior, the United .States Fish and Wildlife Service and the National Wildlife Refuge System.

Sadly, only fifteen percent of this natural treasure remains unblemished but there is great hope for the future. Presently, San Pablo Bay National Wildlife Refuge is a protected sanctuary for a thriving year-round local population of the California Clapper and Black Rails, the Salt Marsh Harvest Mice, the Song Sparrows of San Pablo and the Suisun Shrews. Furthermore, San Pablo Bay National Wildlife Refuge is a welcoming winter resort for various species of birds especially the diving ducks, as well as eleven kinds of fish that annually cross the San Pablo Bay to their fresh water spawning grounds.

Now that we have seen what San Pablo Bay National Wildlife Refuge does for wildlife, let us examine what it can do for you and me and I am please to inform you that it can do plenty with a capital "P." Being open to the public every day of the year from sun up to sun down it offers: hands-on educational programs for elementary school classes; off-water fishing in the open bay and sloughs accessible by boats; hunting grounds which are subject to State and Federal regulations and seasonal restriction; hiking and walking trails; and wildlife viewing and capturing on film.

And if you wish to turn your visit to San Pablo Bay National Wildlife Refuge into a true vacation, you will find plenty of charming, rustic and beautifully maintained local accommodations such as B&Bs and inns.

The Brook's Song

"The brook would lose its song if the rocks were taken away." Elizabeth Kellogg

Avi Salzman, in Sunday's New York Times, describes Autumn in New England arriving "like a prom queen, draped in boastful reds, yellows and rusty browns, perfumed with wood smoke."

I had the privilege this weekend of chaperoning 40-something musicians in the Ridgefield Symphony Youth Orchestra to a large retreat center in the Catskill Mountains of New York. Not exactly New England. But close enough.

The fall foliage was splendid, and daily walks through nature trails and around the on-site lake were nothing short of spectacular. What with the bite of the crisp fall air filling my lungs, an on-again off-again drizzle wetting my cheeks, and the occasional aroma of a leftover nighttime camp fire arousing my own childhood camp memories, it would be hard to miss nature's extravagant call.

I didn't notice the plaque on the wall of our quintessentially-campy cabin until this morning, when I went back to clean up after the twenty gals sharing my quarters. With sleeping bags and luggage safely tucked into another cabin for pick-up, I was sent up to perform one last bunk-check. Lifting up skimpy mattresses to look for lost clothing, pulling back shower curtains to check for forgotten toiletries, collecting garbage to lighten the housekeeper's load, and turning down both lights and thermostats, I happened to glance up at the back wall as I was tying the final plastic garbage liner. The plaque commemorated the completion of the lodge which bears Ms. Kellogg's name. It was shortly after reading her selected quote: "the brook would lose its song if the rocks were taken away" that I began my morning walk around the lake. For the first time all weekend, I noticed the brooks. It was one babbling brook after another, each singing its own song. And even though each day had brought a nature hike or two---walking right past these brooks each and every time---I had not heard their songs before.

I confess to taking nature for granted. We live---my family and I---in the middle of a large wooded lot, which is surrounded by a fifty acre nature preserve. Wildlife abounds: deer, wild turkey, rabbits, and fox are familiar creatures sharing our everyday space. I try to remember how fortunate I am, being able to view the raw beauty of nature each and every day. To drive down a long and windy driveway with an abundance of trees, wildflowers and yes, babbling brooks. Yet I don't. And so traveling to yet another beautiful mountaintop retreat---to co-habit with nature---was, I admit, a splendid, though not particularly unique experience. I deliberately took in the beauty of the changing leaves (and it was especially beautiful); I deliberately used my free time each day for nature hikes (and they were certainly special); and I deliberately lingered at the evening campfire (sans s'mores) to be especially sure that the smell and the smoke of it would stick to my memory for one full year, until I could recapture the experience once again.

But it was the words on that plaque that most struck me. That especially gave me pause. Wondering what kind of "rocks" had filled Ms. Kellogg's path. Pondering why they---among any words or quotes she could have possibly chosen---had inspired her. Why she chose these words to immortalize the dedication. Questioning if it were, indeed, the "rocks" in her life that fortified her to move forward, that gave her wisdom, or that taught her lessons she would otherwise have never learned, that allowed her to be where she found herself on the day in which a building was dedicated to her.

And so I took my walk around the lake, stopping for the first time to listen to the song of the brooks. To forget about having a cardio-workout or making good time. To just stop when I got to a brook and listen to its song. I noticed for the first time the abundance of rocks lining each brook's formation. And realized that---rock-free---each would simply be a mere silent stream of water.

Perhaps I would not have noticed the plaque in any other year. "Rocks" would not have had the significance that they have for me today. No. Reading the plaque was serendipitous to be sure. It helped me realize that people who have something significant to offer to the world have walked a rock-studded path. That silent streams of water might be beautiful in and of themselves, but that they cannot offer a beautiful song. That the brook's song is sweeter. Because of the rocks.

The serenity of my morning nature walks provided me with much-needed perspective. They helped to balance me. With no sound other than the wind rushing through the rapidly-changing fall leaves, the light rain hitting the ground, or the melodious song of the brooks: I came to the quiet resignation that rocks are a good thing. And that man---throughout time---has acknowledged the same. It was the whole into-every-life-a-little-rain-must-fall-no-one-ever-promised you-a-rose-garden thing. But out in nature---in the middle of the Catskills---I accepted it with peace. Not taking away from the glorious music which 40-something young musicians were producing inside a campy retreat center, it was the song of the brook that rang more majestic than ever.

I hope that this fall brings you time to retreat into solitude, too. That be it into nature or into a friend's home; into travel to a faraway place or into the down-filled cushions of your living room sofa: that you are able to make time for solitude. For wisdom and soul-searching and decision-making and finding life's meaning come not in the busyness and rush of everyday life, but in the moments captured in silence and solitude. In hearing the song of the brook.

Enjoying Canada's Fishing Opportunities

Have you ever thought of taking an angling trip to Canada? Fishing in the great North can be exciting and rewarding in ways you've never expected. Canada is home to a wide variety of sport fish species, including salmon, bass, trout, pike, and walleye. Because Canada's fish populations are less frequently harvested than many populations in the United States, your chances of landing a record-sized fish are greatly increased. From relaxed summer sport fishing to ice fishing, companies throughout Canada are ready to take you on a guided fishing trip. Experienced fishing guides can be hired who know all the best spots. These sport companies can also provide all the best, up to date gear, and have extensive information about local lakes, rivers, and streams.

Hiring a company to guide you through your Canada fishing trip is probably the best way to get right in and catch some fish. If you're a stranger to Canada, you won't know the area or the habits of the fish, but your guides can tell you just where to start. If you're fishing for salmon, the company can also provide you with a chartered boat. Inquire about different companies and charters - there are a lot of people willing to provide fishing services in Canada, and you'll want to pick the best one. Don't hesitate to check the background of the company you'd like to sign on with.

You can find trips offered all over Canada. Fishing in Canada can be done in the Yukon, Central Ontario, British Columbia, and many other locations. Because of the low human pressure on fish in Canada, it's home to some world class trophy fish, including enormous salmon. In the waters off of Vancouver Island in British Columbia, halibut are especially plentiful. The Yukon offers trout, pike, salmon, and many other species of fish in its crystal clear waters. Whatever your desire, a Canada fishing trip should be able to provide.

If you're ready to put your skills on the line with a Canada fishing trip, call in advance to find out what you'll need. In 2007, many U.S. visitors who enter the country by land will not have to present a passport. You can head straight to your Canada fishing trip with a minimum of red tape. Research your fishing charter to find the very best one. Soon, with the help of an experienced guide, you could be catching that trophy fish you've always dreamed of.

Ishasha Sector and the Tree Climbing Lions

Having been woken up at 0600 hours that my tea was outside my tent, I jumped out of bed and sat on the canvas chair taking pleasure in the early African light, eavesdropping to the river rush past. Normally a little stream with sandy banks, hippos and elephants crossing, feeling an African touch! The river had now turned into full flood after the deluge of rain a few days ago. This was the rainy season. My bush shower had previously been elevated up so after enjoying the morning light I went back into my tent for a quick hot shower before rising more awake to go on a game drive in this re-known Ishasha sector - famous for its tree climbing Lions.

After taking a cup of coffee, we set off for a short drive to the top of the ridge to listen to the African morning ensemble - a brew of bird calls as the sun attempted to rise through the early morning mist. It was overwhelming, all the different tweets, hoots, coos and clicks (which Ronald pointed out to us each time we heard a new sound) as the mist lifted from the valleys and the light changed and became day. The night before, it had rained and cleared the air so we had a breath-taking view of the snow capped Rwenezori Mountains in one direction and the volcanoes in Uganda, Rwanda and Congo in the other. Below us were herds of Elephant in the distance which we watched while enjoying a coffee before our guide (and host) said "We should go to the fig trees, seems like the lions are still up the fig tree and I don't want us to miss them". We were so thrilled to hear this and couldn't wait!

The camp is comparatively close to the fig tree we had found the lions in the day before as we entered Ishasha (the Southern part of Queen Elizabeth Nation Park) and when we got there we found 8 lions lounging on the large horizontal fig branches. The day before when we had entered the park, 5 females were in an Acacia tree and the four males in the fig tree we were now parked next to. The females had joined the rest of the pack overnight and we waited for that golden shine of the morning sun so we could take some good photos. After leaving the lions we headed across the plain on the Northern circuit and must have passed a thousand Kob, grazing and steadily moving as a large herd.

There were also plenty of Topis and Buffalo, Ring-necked Doves ,colourful European Bee-eaters still perched on trees, and Coucals with their feather puffed up to keep warm and Francolin's running in front of the vehicle before taking off with their idiosyncratic ke-ke-ke-kekeke kuh call. On the other side of the plain the vegetation is thicker with more scrub and thickets. All of a sudden, Ronald stopped and signaled us to be quiet as he whispered "Leopard, in the tree!". Convinced enough, not more than 50 meters from the road was a bravura Leopard in an Acacia tree. He had already heard us and before long was elegantly climbing down the tree (unlike the awkward lions that seem to fall out). Soon all we could see with the feathery white tip of his tail and he disappeared into the long grass. We wished he could stay longer! We were happy about this but so sad to see him disappear.....

After this memorable morning game drive, we headed back to the Wilderness Camp for breakfast. We headed along the crest seeing more Buffalo wallowing in mud pools, Kob and Topi, then dropped down onto the river plain before inflowing the forest that borders the river bank where the camp is concealed. Ishasha wilderness camp is on a bend of Ntungwe River and the main dining and lounge tent is centrally positioned right alongside the river. Tables were already laid with fresh fruits and juice on our arrival.

George, the head waiter came and took our orders for our main mid morning breakfast breakfast - would we like eggs, beans, sausages and sandwiches? There is no menu but everything for a full English breakfast was available including mushrooms. Hot toast was brought and I was delighted to see I had pleasant yellow scrambled eggs instead of the white ones you find in the city- so tasty!

They can also make pancakes and have great home made honey roasted crunchy muesli and real coffee - just ask them to make it stronger if it is too weak for your liking.

After a long breakfast I headed back to my tent, found my book and enjoyed the comfort of my hammock which each tent has to one side. I was disturbed by a massive splash of water and found out the bank had been eroded so much that a tree on the bank had fallen into the river. Paul told us that when the river is low, lunch and dinner are sometimes served on the sand banks next to the trickling stream. Lunch was served in the same place as breakfast - the stream had turned into the Congo - muddy brown water with trees been washed down the torrent. Once again there is no menu for lunch but different food each day - salad, home made hot rolls, Mousaka, cold meats and cheese. It is not gourmet food, but very tasty, healthy and home made. We then retired to the lounge area where there is buffet tea and coffee table with excellent home made flap jacks and chocolate chip cookies to nibble away on while playing back gammon. This is also a good time to charge the camera batteries if the generator is on.

The camp has eight tents in all, each with twin beds, solar lighting, shelves for your clothes and a separate en suite bush shower and small bathroom with sink and eco friendly "night" toilet at the rear. You can roll down the canvas so that three sides of your tent are open and let the breeze blow through while enjoying the sounds of bush life outside. Ishasha really is in the middle on nowhere and you cannot hear any traffic and hardly get a mobile phone signal. The camp does not try to be ostentatious (there is no wireless internet, no spa, no air conditioning, no pool, no spa treatment and no fine wine cellar.) but is comfortable and practical.

The rooms are not lavishly decorated in grand campaign 1920's style or classic safari camp antiques but you have all the comforts you require - hot showers, hot and cold water next to the wash basin and bottled water to wash you teeth with and ample privacy between tents. The tents do not have thatched coverings but instead use the natural shade of the trees and blend in with the environment. I particularly like the flushing "day" toilet which is away from the river and is open to the view of forest. You cannot beat a loo with a view and if you are a birder I recommend you take your binoculars to view the hornbills as they swoop between trees as well as all the other bird species in the trees.

Late afternoon we went for another game drive, first to the Kob lek (breeding ground) which was covered in dancing Crested Cranes, Warthogs as well as the Kobs and enjoyed a gin and tonic, beers, nuts and popcorn while the light faded before retuning for an early dinner. Dinner is a four course candle lit affair. A starter, soup, main and dessert. The soups were excellent - cucumber, tomato and basil, pumpkin and sweet potato, varied main courses each night - chicken, fish or beef with crunchy vegetables which included broccoli and cauliflower (a rarity in the bush), and one night an incredibly rich chocolate dessert. The food in unpretentious, as are the wines but tasty. After dinner we sat around the fire for coffee before retiring early to bed after an awesome day with nature.

We were unlucky on our drive to the Lake George flats not to see the Shoebill Stork but overall considering it was the rainy season had an incredible time, we did see the splendid Saddle-bill Stork and one morning saw more than 200 Elephant - some with massive tusks, found a lion kill, and saw some amazing bird life, especially all types of raptors including an Amur Falcon. There is something magical about game viewing in Uganda, especially Ishasha. They are such few other tourists that when you see game it is very much in an unspoilt environment. There is no hissing radio in your car and twenty other vehicles viewing the leopard. Not everyone sees the famous tree lions, but that's what makes it even more special if you do.

Ishasha Wildness camp is the only camp to stay at in Ishasha unless you camp at the campsite near the park headquarters. The camp is eco friendly and works with the Kazinga-Bukorwe Community Trust which offers tourists alternatives to game drives like how the local community is undertaking issues such as crop raiding elephants. It is a long ten hour drive to get there but once you get there it is well worth it especially if you are on your way to or from Gorilla viewing. Forget your phone and internet - get back to nature and go and spend a couple of nights in this amazing corner of Africa-so magnificent!
